Travel | South Africa

"Every country in the world displays some diversity, but South Africa, stretching from the hippos in the Limpopo River to the penguins waddling on the Cape, takes some beating."

I spend a good chunk of my day imagining being somewhere else. Don't get me wrong - I love my hometown of Auckland, New Zealand (almost too much, according to some people) - but there are so many places in the world I have yet to explore. My ideas for my next trip seem to change constantly - from Asia to Europe to America and back again - and I only hope that one day, I will be able to visit them all. South Africa is a country I've been intrigued by for some time - possibly because so many of my friends and colleagues hail from there. It is a country of stunning diversity - from blistering Kalahari Desert, Durban's epic surf breaks, Cape Town's Table Mountain and Kruger National Park’s savannah. Although South Africa's apartheid history is ever-present, South Africans remain  "some of the most upbeat, welcoming and humorous folk you’ll encounter anywhere".

South Africa is one of my dream destinations, definitely. I was just talking about it with a friend recently.

Here's to dreaming about faraway places!
